Medical Camp in Dharavi, Mumbai

Goal - Provide primary healthcare services and improve accessibility to primary health care and essential medicines for the underprivileged and economically weaker sections of society at their doorstep (project fully funded by HealthShine).

Location – Dharavi, the largest slum in Asia, right in the heart of Mumbai, India.

Target Beneficiaries – Approximately 250-300 individuals, especially women, children and seniors.

Issues Addressed – Expensive private health delivery system; Limited accessibility to primary health care services; Inadequate human resource and under-equipped government health service delivery.The goal was to promote community health and increase the accessibility of primary healthcare services in the biggest slum in Asia, right in the heart of Mumbai. Our team of qualified medical doctors and para-medical support staff treated over 300 patients, especially women, children, and senior citizens.

LOCALE PARTNER - SMILE FOUNDATION

HealthShine, in collaboration with a local non-governmental organization, Smile Foundation, organized a day long health camp in Dharavi, Mumbai. Our team of 2 doctors and 6 para-medical support staff treated approximately 300 patients. The primary health checkup included health history, physical exam and any essential tests.  In addition, they were provided basic medicines and any required referrals for serious conditions.

Mobile Medical units

In the rural villages, there are many instances when preliminary treatment is required however, the poor villagers either do not have access to the appropriate care or cannot afford the medical care. In addition, the unhealthy and unhygienic conditions result in many ailments and malnutrition is prevalent due to the poor food intake.

The mobile medical units come to the rescue. They include a team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and healthcare workers who help provide immediate care to the sick villagers. In addition to medical care, the units provide valuable health advice and spread awareness about prevention and health living including personal hygiene and cleanliness.

The villagers are able to save their their hard-earned money and lead better lives.
